IEC materials were distributed to the participants and explained as to how these were to be distributed and displayed. They were further instructed to find suitable sites for wall paintings preferably schools and get permission for the displays.The meeting ended with Mr. J.B. Das thanking all and asking the core staff to make this programme a successful one.

The Workshop was presided by Mr. Mr. S. Biswal, Headmaster, GK high School, Subalia. The Workshop was inaguarated with the traditional lighting of the lamp by Mr. Surendra Biswal, Forest Ranger of Chatrapur Division and was followed by introduction of Guests by Mr. S.N. Bejo, Teacher of GK High School. The programme co-ordinated by Mr. Anand Patro and Mr. Ravindra Ku. Sahu of PFA. Fishermen for the local areas as well as school children were present in large numbers in the workshop.
The workshop started with Mr. Surendra Biswal explaining the work being currently done by the forest department but expressed his helplessness in not being able to do much given the lack of resources. Mr. Ravi, PFA explained the local situation in the Rushikulya Rookery and the damage that is being done in recent times. Recently many clusters of settlements have come up near the beach which is damaging the environment. He further explained the basics of the turtle's lifecycle and the help that they provide to the environment.
Mr. Anand Patro explained the current situation of Turtle Conservation in the state and the issues attached to it. The planed activities in the on going project were also given by him to the participants and the need for involving school children was also explained by him. He further explained the concept of Turtle Clubs to the participants.

Then the workshop was made open and suggestion and comments were asked for from the participants. Many questions were asked by the students regarding the role and responsibilities of the students and what they can do about it. A student who had some knowledge on the subject was called upon to speak and he gave a very nice presentation on the turtles and what students should do. |

Children eagerly wanted to know about the turtles and showed keen interest in the subject. Photos and Posters were also shown to the participants for better and close understanding.

Among the guests included Mr. Dusashan Nayak, Eminent Journalist and Sarpanch of Belabhumi. Fishermen for the local areas as well as school children were present in large numbers in the workshop. |

Addressing the participants, Mr. Anand Patro explained the current situation of Turtle Conservation in the state and the issues attached to it. The general lifecycle of the turtles were explained by him by using photographs and Posters. He went on to explain the positive impact the turtle have on our environment and what loss would be made if we lose the turtles forever. The planed activities in the ongoing project were also given by him to the participants. He further explained the concept of Turtle Clubs to the participants. |

Mr.Nayak, speaking on the occasion stressed on the need of awareness on the issue and expresses his regrets that nobody including the media was not doing enough in the regards. He believed that PFA with the support of the local fishermen in the programme and school children will do something good for the turtles. Addressing the issue of turtles is
very essential and once these wonderful creatures are lost, Orissa which is one of the few areas in the world where these turtle come to lay their eggs would be at loss. The need of the hour according to him was proper awareness on the subject and removal of wrong myths about the turtles. |
Mr. Biswal, Headmaster of the local school expressed his happiness and assured all necessary help from him and the children. He called some his students to speak and ask questions on the turtles. Many relevant questions were asked by the students which were answered by Mr. Patro. Mr. Bichitrananda Biswal, PFA-Orissa explained the use of TED and other mechanism for protection of the turtles.

One of the major concerns of the participants was that related to the proposed Port in the Mouth area by the Government. The children were eager to know if that would have any major impact on the turtles. This show the interest of the children on the issue which is a positive sign.
Brochures were provided to the participants and everything about the turtles has been explained. Photos and Posters were also shown to the participants for better and close understanding.

The Workshop was inaguarated with the traditional lighting of the lamp by Mr. Anand Patro, PFA, Orissa and was followed by introduction of Guests by Mr. Dhiren Das , PFA, Kendrapara. Among the guests included Mr. Narayan Haldar, President, Orissa Fishermen Association and Sarpanch of Kharnasi. Along with him the Headmaster of the local school, Mr. Gourahari Dalei was invited as a speaker. Fishermen for the local areas as well as school children were present in large numbers in the workshop. |
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Anand Patro explained the current situation of Turtle Conservation in the state and the issues attached to it. He gave a vivid explanation of the problems associated with the conservation of turtle in the state and what needs to be done. The planed activities in the ongoing project were also given by him to the participants and the need for involving school children was also explained by him. He further explained the concept of Turtle Clubs to the participants.

Mr. Haldar, speaking on the occasion explained the problems faced by the fishing community and what they have been doing to avoid causalities of turtles. He expressed his happiness that PFA has decided to work in tandem with the local fishermen in the programme and involvement of school children. He further informed that as the fishermen lacked basic knowledge on the turtle and their habitats, it further increased the gravity of the situation. The need of the hour according to him was proper awareness on the subject and removal of wrong myths about the turtles. |

Mr. Dalei, Headmaster of the local school expressed his happiness and eagerness in participation of the children in the programme assured all necessary help. He also stressed on the fact that lack of proper knowledge on the issue was acting negatively on the conservation of the turtles.
Then the workshop was made open and suggestion and comments were asked for from the participants. Nearly all of the speakers had queries regarding what kind of nets should be used by them and what they are using. |
One of the most important suggestions came from Mr. Bainsi Das where he stressed that as long as there were no other alternatives and the people are poor, they tend to use nets which are local made and are harmful for the turtles. The use of TED was explained to the participants by Mr. Patro. The cost associated and the escaping of fish catch was also explained to which all responded that if any financial help can be provided then they would certainly use the TED nets.

School children were more eager to know about the turtles and showed keen interest in the brochures provided to them in with everything about the turtles has been explained. Photos and Posters were also shown to the participants for better and close understanding.
